Spring Style Dilemma
I grew up in the age of fashion magazines. Okay I know that is "giving boomer," but skimming the glossy pages of Vogue, Redbook, and Seventeen offered me glimpses of the posh, poised, professional woman I wanted to become.
How funny that seventeen seemed like adulting. How funny I thought I would go "flawlessly from office to cocktails," or that I never factored having a household of other humans into my day dream.
The truth is that most of us who work as speech-language pathologists (SLPs) live a very different reality than those stylish pages suggest. We work in tiny chairs, across different room temperatures, and then head home to start a second shift of caretaking (whether dogs, partners, or children). I know that when I dress better I feel better, but the temptation of late spring to trend toward frumpy repeated outfits is real.
Are leggings business casual if they have pockets? Will anyone notice the coffee stain on the Friday t-shirt you have worn every Friday this school year?
So...drumroll please...I reached out to my friend DJ at WavyBabe Style for help. She is effortlessly put together and has a gift for creative styling. You can read more about her services here, and she put together 3 Spring Outfits for SLPs to mix and match.
These simple ideas will freshen up your existing spring work outfits without breaking the bank on a new wardrobe. You're welcome!
Easy Breezy Monday
This is your go-to outfit when you need to be out the door in five minutes but still want to look like you made an effort.

Why it Works
This outfit transitions seamlessly from morning coffee to hallway chats. It's functional, comfy, and still gives "I have my life together" energy.
Pro Tip
Look for pockets! Make sure at least one article of clothing has roomy pockets to stash pens, keys, or your phone.
What to Wear
Soft wide-leg pants (pull-on or elastic waistband = bonus points)
Lightweight button-down shirt or oversized blouse
Clean sneakers or slip-ons
Gold jewelry and a casual tote or crossbody bag
SLP in Bloom
For the days you want to embrace your inner flower child (but still be classroom-ready).

Why it Works
This one-and-done look gives you maximum movement and minimum fuss. Plus, it’s the ultimate mood booster for grey spring mornings.
Pro Tip
Prepare for mess! Patterns and darker denim hide stains better than white or light pastels.
What to Wear
Tiered cotton or knit midi dress (pockets, always)
Denim jacket or lightweight sweater
Close-toed clogs, flat sandals, or comfy mules
Fun earrings and a bright tote bag or lanyard for a pop of personality
Color Pop Cool Girl
This outfit is for the SLP who isn’t afraid to add a little fun into her fit. A great option to boost your mood on casual Fridays!

Why it Works
You can dress it up or down, depending on your school’s vibe — and still feel like your most authentic, expressive self.
Pro Tip
Dress code doesn't have to mean boring. Showing your personality through colors and patterns is a great way to connect with the kids on your caseload.
What to Wear
Ankle-length chinos or straight-leg jeans
Bright knit tee or graphic top
Lightweight bomber or utility jacket
Loafers or comfy slides
Hair accessories, enamel pins, or small colorful earrings to finish it off
That's a Wrap
